We are currently offering a selection of prints from Charles D’Orbigny’s Dictionnaire Universel d’Histoire Naturelle, published by Renard & Martinet of Paris. These original engravings are over 150 years old and considered by many experts to be the finest and best illustrated natural history work of the era. The superb, beautifully hand colored plates are from the leading French artists of the day such as Susemihl, Traviès, Oudart and Pretre. There is no text, but the order, genus & species is on each print in Latin & French.

The condition of these prints is generally very good to excellent. Each print measures approximately 6 1/4 by 9 1/2 inches. Printed on beautiful heavy French paper that varies from creamy to soft white.
Due to their age, there may be some foxing or toning on the plate, so please have a good look at the enlargements provided by clicking on the thumbnail images below.
The Darvill's digital watermark does not appear on the actual antique prints.
