Buck’s Antiquities, or Venerable Remains of Above Four Hundred Castles, Monasteries, Palaces etc. in England and Wales.
Samuel and Nathaniel Buck, London: 1726-52.

Original Copper-plate engravings over 270 years old • Sheet size: about 14.5 x 7.5 inches
(some plates foxed, damp-stained)
(note: all engravings have paper stuck to back where previously mounted, except Lilleshul Priory)

Between 1720 and 1752, Samuel Buck and his younger brother Nathaniel toured England and Wales to record the castles and abbeys that scattered the countryside. Their detailed views provide an invaluable record of England's architectural antiquities, offering, in some cases, the only trace of ruined or lost buildings. Nathaniel and Samuel executed over 400 views in addition to 100 general views of English and Welsh cities. These detailed panoramas remain some of their most sought-after works, providing a fascinating view of England's most prominent cities.
